Voucher Programs in the United States

There are nine school voucher programs in the United States serving 64,079 students during the 2009-10 school year. Six states and the District of Columbia offer school voucher programs.

DC: D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program
Provides private school vouchers to assist low-income children in Washington, D.C.
Serves 1,319 students in 2009-10.

Florida: John M. McKay Scholarship for Students with Disabilities
Provides private school vouchers to assist children with special needs in Florida.
Serves 19,913 students in 2009-10.

Georgia: Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program
Provides private school vouchers to assist children with special needs in Georgia..
Serves 2,068 students in 2009-10.

LA: Student Scholarships for Educational Excellence
Provides private school vouchers to assist low-income children in failing schools in New Orleans.
Serves 1,195 students in 2009-10.

Ohio: Autism Scholarship Program
Provides private school vouchers to assist children with autism in Ohio.
Serves 1,500 students in 2009-10.*

OH: Cleveland Scholarship and Tutoring Program (OH)
Provides private school vouchers to assists low-income children in Cleveland, Ohio.
Serves 5,469 students in 2009-10.

OH: Educational Choice Scholarship Program
Provides private school vouchers to assist children in failing schools in Ohio.
Serves 11,685 students in 2009-10.

WI: Milwaukee Parental Choice Program
Provides private school vouchers to assist low-income children in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Serves 20,328 students in 2009-10.

Utah: Carson Smith Special Needs Scholarship
Provides private school vouchers to assist children with special needs in Utah.
Serves 602 students in 2009-10.

Scholarship Tax Credit Programs in the United States

There are nine scholarship tax credit programs in the United States serving 115,642 students during the 2009-10 school year. Seven states offer scholarship tax credit programs.

Arizona: Lexie’s Law
Provide scholarships for foster children and children with special needs to attend private schools.
Tax credits provided to corporate donors.
Serves 472 students in 2009-10.

Arizona: Individual School Tuition Organization Tax Credit
Provide scholarships for children to attend private schools.
Tax credits provided to individual donors.
Serves 28,933 students in 2009-10.

Arizona: Corporate School Tuition Organization Tax Credit
Provide scholarships for low and lower-middle-income children to attend private schools.
Tax credits provided to corporate donors.
Serves 2,596 students in 2009-10.

Florida: Florida Scholarship Tax Credit Program
Provide scholarships for low-income children to attend private schools.
Tax credits provided to corporate donors.
Serves 26,987 students in 2009-10.

Georgia: Georgia Scholarship Tax Credit Program
Provide scholarships for children to attend private schools.
Tax credits provided to individual and corporate donors.
Serves 1,900 students in 2009-10.

Indiana: Corporate and Individual Scholarship Tax Credit Program
Program will be available in 2010-11

Iowa: Individual School Tuition Organization Tax Credit
Provide scholarships for low and lower-middle income children to attend private schools.
Tax credits provided to individual donors.
Serves 9,624 students in 2009-10.

Pennsylvania: Educational Improvement Tax Credit
Provide scholarships for low and lower-middle income children to attend private schools.
Tax credits provided to corporate donors.
Serves 44,839 students in 2009-10.*

Rhode Island: Rhode Island Corporate Scholarship Tax Credit
Provide scholarships for low and lower-middle income children to attend private schools.
Tax credits provided to corporate donors.
Serves 291 students in 2009-10.*
